Diploma Course Year One 2008/2009

Each weekend will include review of the Five Element theory in relation to the elements.

There will also be time for practice treatments on each other.

A range of self development exercises will be covered each weekend. These will include Makko-ho stretches, Do-In exercises, breathing and meditation exercises plus any exercises individual teachers may include.

WEEKEND 1- INTRODUCTION

  • Ethics and code of conduct,
  • Contra-indications,
  • Theory of Yin and Yang,
  • Principles of Zen Shiatsu,
  • Practice-touch, positioning, work in prone position

WEEKEND 2- REVIEW

4th/5th October 2008

  • Anatomy- Anatomical planes and sections, terms of positions,
  • Introduction to four methods of diagnosis,
  • Theory of Ki,
  • Practical homework requirements-25 treatments,
  • Communication and listening skills,
  • Practice in prone position.

WEEKEND 3- METAL

1st/2nd November 2008

  • Anatomy-Structure of cells,
  • Introduction to Five Element Theory,
  • Classical meridians; location of Lung and Large Intestine meridians and relevant points,
  • Zang Fu theory of the organs.

WEEKEND 4- EARTH

29th/30th November 2008

  • Anatomy-Skeletal system,
  • Develop work in supine position,
  • Classical meridians; location of Stomach and Spleen meridians and relevant points,
  • Zang Fu theory of the organs.

WEEKEND 5- FIRE- 1

10th/11th January 2009

  • Anatomy- Skeletal system,
  • Develop work in supine position,
  • Classical meridians; location of Heart and Small Intestine meridians and relevant points,
  • Zang Fu theory of the organs,

WEEKEND 6-MID-YEAR REVIEW

  • Recap on Five Element Theory, Yin and Yang, Theory of Ki

    Develop work in prone position,
  • Classical meridians; location of Bladder and Kidney meridians and relevant points,
  • Zang Fu theory of the organs,

WEEKEND 8- FIRE 2

4th/5th April 2009

  • Anatomy-Muscles of head, neck and shoulder and related movements,
  • Classical meridians; location of Triple Heater and Heart Protector meridians and relevant points,
  • Zang Fu theory of the organs,

WEEKEND 9- WOOD

9th/10th May 2009

  • Anatomy-Muscles of arms and torso and related movements,
  • Develop work in side position,
  • Classical meridians; location of Gall Bladder and Liver meridians and relevant points,
  • Zang Fu theory of the organs,

WEEKEND 10- OVERVIEW

6th/7th June 2009

  • Anatomy- Muscles of pelvic area, legs, feet and related movements,
  • Classical meridians; location of Governing Vessel and Conception Vessel meridians and relevant points, plus Bo points,
  • Zang Fu theory of meridians,
  • Review of all classical meridians,
  • Practice in sitting position.

WEEKEND 11- ASSESSMENT AND LOOK FORWARD
